قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰ وَيْلَكُمْ لَا تَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًۭا فَيُسْحِتَكُم بِعَذَابٍۢ ۖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ

Moses said to the magicians summoned by Pharaoh, "Woe to you! Do not invent a lie against Allah or He will exterminate you with a punishment; and he has failed who invents [such falsehood]."

    فَتَوَلَّى فِرْعَوْنُ — Allah the Exalted says: Pharaoh turned away and turned himself from the Truth that had been brought to him. فَجَمَعَ كَيْدَهُ — He says: he gathered his cunning — and that was the gathering of his sorcerers after he had compelled them to acquire their knowledge. ثُمَّ أَتَى — He says: then he came at the appointed time that Mūsā had promised him, and he brought his sorcerers with him.

    وقوله ( فَتَوَلَّى فِرْعَوْنُ ) يقول تعالى ذكره: فأدبر فرعون معرضا عما أتاه به من الحقّ( فَجَمَعَ كَيْدَهُ ) يقول: فجمع مكره، وذلك جمعه سحرته بعد أخذه إياهم بتعلمه ( ثُمَّ أَتَى ) يقول: ثم جاء للموعد الذي وعده موسى، وجاء بسحرته.
