The explanation of the word of Allah, the Exalted: اشْدُدْ بِهِ أَزْرِي ("Strengthen thereby my back") (20:31)
Allah, exalted be His remembrance, says, informing us about Mūsā, that he asked his Lord to strengthen his back through his brother Hārūn. By His word اشْدُدْ بِهِ أَزْرِي He means: "strengthen my back and support me through him." Concerning this it is said: "So-and-so supported (āzara) so-and-so" — when he has helped him and strengthened his back.
With what we have said concerning this, the exegetes also agree.
Mention of those who said that:
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās — concerning His word اشْدُدْ بِهِ أَزْرِي: he said: "Strengthen thereby my back."
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb reported to us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His word اشْدُدْ بِهِ أَزْرِي: he said: "Strengthen thereby my affair, and fortify me thereby, for I draw strength through it."
