We have not sent down to you the Qur'an that you be distressed

Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid — concerning مَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ لِتَشْقَى ("We have not sent down the Qurʾān to you that you should be wretched"): he said: "This is equivalent to His word فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ ('So recite as much of it as is easy for you'), and they used to bind ropes around their chests during the prayer."
Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid — concerning مَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ لِتَشْقَى: he said: "This refers to the prayer, in accordance with His word: فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ ('So recite as much of it as is easy for you'), and they used to bind ropes around their chests during the prayer."
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda — concerning مَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ لِتَشْقَى: "No, by Allah, He did not make him wretched; rather He made him a mercy, a light, and a guide to the Garden (janna)."
