The statement concerning the explanation of the words of Allah the Exalted: وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لآدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلا إِبْلِيسَ أَبَى ("And remember when We said to the angels: 'Make a sujūd to Ādam,' and they made a sujūd, except Iblīs: he refused") (20:116)
Allah the Exalted says — while He instructs His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ about the fact that Ādam neglected his covenant, and informs him that his descendants will go no further than to follow his own path therein, except those of them whom Allah has preserved —: (and) remember, O Muḥammad: وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لآدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلا إِبْلِيسَ أَبَى — (he refused) to make a sujūd to him.
