1. Full Dutch translation of Tabari's text

   His statement: وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ ("And We shall inherit from him that which he says") — Allah, the Mighty, the Exalted, says: We shall strip this speaker — he who claims, "I shall be granted wealth and offspring in the Hereafter" — of his wealth and offspring; his wealth and offspring shall fall to Us and not to him, and on the Day of Resurrection he shall come to Us as a solitary individual (fardan): alone, with neither wealth nor offspring with him.

   In accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) also spoke.

   Mention of those who said this:

   Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me — he said: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us — he said: ʿĪsā related to us [narration h]; and al-Ḥārith related to me — he said: al-Ḥasan related to us — he said: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ — "his wealth and his offspring; and that is what al-ʿĀṣ ibn Wāʾil said."

   Al-Qāsim related to us — he said: al-Ḥusayn related to us — he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Mujāhid — to the same effect.

   Bishr related to us — he said: Yazīd related to us — he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement: وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ وَيَأْتِينَا فَرْدًا — "without wealth and without offspring."

   Al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā related to us — he said: ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us — he said: Maʿmar informed us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement: وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ — he said: "What he possesses — and that is his statement: لَأُوتَيَنَّ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا." In the reading of Ibn Masʿūd it is: "wa-narithuhu mā ʿindahu" ("and We shall inherit from him that which is with him").

   Yūnus related to me — he said: Ibn Wahb informed us — he said: Ibn Zayd said concerning His statement: وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ — he said: "What he has amassed of the worldly life and what he has done therein." وَيَأْتِينَا فَرْدًا — he said: "As a solitary individual, devoid of it; nothing shall remain with him, neither little nor much."

   ʿAlī related to me — he said: ʿAbd Allāh related to us — he said: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His statement: وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ — "We shall inherit from him" [the quotation is incomplete here in the source; in the narration via al-Durr it reads for Ibn ʿAbbās: "We shall inherit what he has left behind: his wealth and his offspring"].

   وقوله ( وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ ) يقول عزّ ذكره : ونسلب هذا القائل: لأوتين في الآخرة مالا وولدا، ماله وولده، ويصير لنا ماله وولده دونه، ويأتينا هو يوم القيامة فردا ، وحده لا مال معه ولا ولد. وبنحو الذي قلنا في ذلك قال أهل التأويل. * ذكر من قال ذلك: حدثني محمد بن عمرو، قال : ثنا أبو عاصم، قال: ثنا عيسى " ح "; وحدثني الحارث، قال: ثنا الحسن، قال: ثنا ورقاء، جميعا عن ابن أبي نجيح، عن مجاهد، قوله ( وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ ) ماله وولده، وذلك الذي قال العاص بن وائل. حدثنا القاسم، قال: ثنا الحسين، قال: ثني حجاج، عن ابن جريج، عن مجاهد، مثله. حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قتادة، قوله ( وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ وَيَأْتِينَا فَرْدًا ) لا مال له ولا ولد. حدثنا الحسن بن يحيى، قال: أخبرنا عبد الرزاق، قال: أخبرنا معمر، عن قتادة، في قوله ( وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ ) قال: ما عنده، وهو قوله لأُوتَيَنَّ مَالا وَوَلَدًا وفي حرف ابن مسعود: ونرثه ما عنده. حدثني يونس، قال: أخبرنا ابن وهب، قال: قال ابن زيد، في قوله ( وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ ) قال: ما جمع من الدنيا وما عمل فيها( وَيَأْتِينَا فَرْدًا ) قال : فردا من ذلك، لا يتبعه قليل ولا كثير. حدثني عليّ، قال: ثنا عبد الله، قال: ثني معاوية، عن عليّ، عن ابن عباس، قوله ( وَنَرِثُهُ مَا يَقُولُ ) : نرثه (4) --------------------- الهوامش : (4) كذا في ابن كثير أيضا . والذي في الدر عن ابن عباس : ونرثه ما يكون : ماله وولده .
