Allah the Exalted says:
After ʿĪsā had said this to her, her soul was calmed and she submitted to the command of Allah, and she carried him until she reached her people.
As Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq, on the authority of a trustworthy person, on the authority of Wahb ibn Munabbih — he said: The grief of the trial and the fear of the people had caused her — that is, Maryam — to forget the message she had received from the angels concerning the glad tidings of ʿĪsā; until he — that is, ʿĪsā — spoke to her, and the confirmation of what Allah had promised her penetrated her heart; then she carried him and returned to her people.
Al-Suddī said in this connection that which Mūsā related to us, saying: ʿAmr related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī — he said: After ʿĪsā had been born, the devil went off and informed the Children of Israel that Maryam had given birth. They came running in haste and called out to her. فَأَتَتْ بِهِ قَوْمَهَا تَحْمِلُهُ (She brought him to her people, carrying him).
His word قَالُوا يَا مَرْيَمُ لَقَدْ جِئْتِ شَيْئًا فَرِيًّا — Allah the Exalted says: When they saw Maryam and saw with her the child to which she had given birth, they said to her: "O Maryam, you have done something wondrous and committed a tremendous deed." Whoever brings a work to completion and executes it well has done it "farā" (done well); as the poet said:
"He had given me hard, bad dates — you used to do therein the extraordinary."
In accordance with what we have said, the exegetes spoke.
