Then he followed a way

The statement concerning the interpretation of the word of Allah the Exalted: ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا (89)
Allah the Exalted says — He whose praise is exalted —: then Dhū al-Qarnayn proceeded onward and followed ways and destinations.
As Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, he said: my father related to me, he said: my uncle related to me, he said: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word (then he followed a way (sababan)): that is to say, a destination (manzilan).
Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning (then he followed a way): the destinations of the earth and its landmarks.
