Tabari

Tafseer of The Bee · An-Nahl · 16:96

Whatever you have will end, but what Allah has is lasting. And We will surely give those who were patient their reward according to the best of what they used to do.

As for His words (And We will surely give those who were patient their reward according to the best of what they used to do): Allah, exalted is His mention, says: Allah will reward those who were patient in obedience to Him — in prosperity and adversity — on the Day of Resurrection for their patience with the best reward and the most abundant recompense for the best deeds that they performed in the worldly life. That is: for their obedience to Allah in fulfilling His covenants and oaths, and not breaking them after their ratification.
