Tabari

Tafseer of The Bee · An-Nahl · 16:86

And when those who associated others with Allah see their "partners," they will say," Our Lord, these are our partners [to You] whom we used to invoke besides You." But they will throw at them the statement, "Indeed, you are liars."

Allah, exalted is His remembrance, says: And when the polytheists (mushrikīn) on the Day of Judgement see those false gods (āliha) and idols which they worshipped besides Allah, they will say: "O our Lord, these are our associates in the disbelief (kufr) in You, and the associates whom we called gods besides You." Allah, exalted is His remembrance, says: فألْقَوْا — that is to say: their associates whom they worshipped besides Allah put the word to them — He says: They said to them: "You are surely lying, O polytheists — we never called you to worship us."

And this is in agreement with what we have said concerning this, according to the people of interpretation.
