Allah, exalted be His remembrance, says: And when those who have given you the lie, O Muhammad, and have denied prophethood (nubuwwa), and the communities who trod the same path as the polytheists (mushrikīn) of your people, behold the punishment of Allah, then nothing will save them from the punishment of Allah. For they will not be granted permission to excuse themselves, such that the punishment might be lightened for them through the excuse they put forward. وَلا هُمْ يُنْظَرُونَ — He says: And they will be granted no respite in the punishment, for the time of repentance and returning has passed away — this is not the moment for that. This is only the moment of requital for deeds. No respite is therefore granted in the punishment so that the penitent might turn back in repentance.
