وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ رِزْقًۭا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

And they worship besides Allah that which does not possess for them [the power of] provision from the heavens and the earth at all, and [in fact], they are unable.

    Allah, exalted be His remembrance, says: And they — those polytheists (mushrikīn) — worship besides Allah idols (awthān) that possess for them no provision from the heavens, for they cannot send down a single raindrop from the heavens to revive the dead land. Nor from the earth: He says: And those idols likewise possess for them no provision from the earth, for they cannot bring forth for them anything of its plants and fruits, nor anything of what Allah, exalted be His remembrance, has enumerated in this verse among the favors with which He has graced them. وَلا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ — He says: And those idols possess nothing of the heavens and the earth; rather, they and everything that is in the heavens and on the earth belong to Allah as His property. And "they are not able" — He says: They are not able to do anything at all.

    يقول تعالى ذكره: ويعبد هؤلاء المشركون بالله من دونه أوثانًا لا تملك لهم رزقا من السموات، لأنها لا تقدر على إنـزال قطر منها لإحياء موتان الأرضين ، والأرض: يقول: ولا تملك لهم أيضًا رزقًا من الأرض لأنها لا تقدر على إخراج شيء من نباتها وثمارها لهم ، ولا شيئًا مما عدّد تعالى في هذه الآية أنه أنعم بها عليهم ( وَلا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ ) يقول: ولا تملك أوثانهم شيئًا من السموات والأرض، بل هي وجميع ما في السموات والأرض لله ملك، ولا يستطيعون يقول: ولا تقدر على شيء.
