Allah, exalted be His praise, says: the object of your worship that has a claim to your devotion and your exclusive obedience, to the exclusion of all else, is a single object of worship — for devotion belongs to none other than Him. So direct your obedience exclusively to Him and dedicate your worship purely to Him, and do not associate any partner with Him alongside Him.
فَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ مُنكِرَةٌ — Allah, exalted be His praise, says: those who do not believe in the promise of Allah and His threat, and do not acknowledge their return to Him after death — their hearts are denying. Allah, exalted be His praise, says: their hearts reject what We have set before them concerning the power of Allah, His greatness, and His beautiful blessings upon them, and that devotion belongs to none other than Him, and that divinity belongs to nothing else. He says: they are arrogant toward acknowledging Allah as the only god and professing His oneness, in imitation of the polytheism (shirk) to which their forefathers adhered.
Thus Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning the words فَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ مُنكِرَةٌ : toward this message which has been set forth earlier, and they are arrogant against it.
