وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُخْتَلِفًا أَلْوَٰنُهُۥٓ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةًۭ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَذَّكَّرُونَ

And [He has subjected] whatever He multiplied for you on the earth of varying colors. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who remember.

    By His word وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ the Exalted means, in His praise: and We have made subservient for you that which We have brought forth for you — that is to say: what We have created for you on the earth of the various kinds of riding-beasts and fruits.

    As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ فِي الأرْضِ — he says: and what We have created for you of the various kinds — of riding-beasts, trees, and fruits — favors of Allah piled one upon another; so be grateful to Allah for that.

    Al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us, saying: Maʿmar informed us, on the authority of Qatāda, who said: of the riding-beasts, the trees, and the fruits. The word "mukhtalifan" stands in the accusative, because the word "mā" occupies an accusative position on account of the meaning I have described. Since that is so, "mukhtalifan alwānuhu" must be a circumstantial qualifier (ḥāl) to "mā," while the structure of the sentence beneath it is already complete without that qualifier. Were "mā" not to occupy an accusative position, and were the construction to begin with His word وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ , then "mukhtalifin" could only stand in the nominative, because it would then be the predicate (khabar) of "mā."

    يعني جلّ ثناؤه بقوله ( وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ ) وسخر لكم ما ذرأ: أي ما خلق لكم في الأرض مختلفا ألوانه من الدوابّ والثمار. كما حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد ، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قتادة، قوله ( وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ فِي الأرْضِ ) يقول: وما خلق لكم مختلفا ألوانه من الدوابّ ، ومن الشجر والثمار، نعم من الله متظاهرة فاشكروها لله. حدثنا الحسن بن يحيى، قال: أخبرنا عبد الرزاق، قال: أخبرنا معمر، عن قتادة، قال: من الدوابّ والأشجار والثمار ، ونصب قوله مختلفا ، لأن قوله (وما) في موضع نصب بالمعنى الذي وصفت. وإذا كان ذلك كذلك، وجب أن يكون مختلفا ألوانه حالا من " ما "، والخبر دونه تامّ، ولو لم تكن " ما " في موضع نصب، وكان الكلام مبتدأ من قوله ( وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ ) لم يكن في مختلف إلا الرفع، لأنه كان يصير مرافع " ما " حينئذ.
