Allah, the Exalted, says: Allah in His prohibitions and who avoided them, who feared His punishment for that and refrained from entering into His prohibitions. وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مُحْسِنُونَ — Allah says: and He is with those who take good care of what He has imposed upon them, who uphold His rights, and who faithfully observe obedience to Him in what He commanded them and forbade them.
The explanation we have given is also the view of the exegetes.
Those who said that:
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Ḥakkām related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of a man, on the authority of al-Ḥasan concerning إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مُحْسِنُونَ : he said: They feared Allah in what He forbade them and acted well in what He had made obligatory upon them.
Al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us, saying: Maʿmar informed us, on the authority of a man, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, something similar.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: he said: It has been related to us that Harim ibn Ḥayyān al-ʿAbdī, on his deathbed, was told: "Make a bequest." He said: "I do not know what to bequeath, but sell my coat of mail and pay off my debt with it. Should that not suffice, then sell my horse. If that too does not suffice, then sell my young slave. And I enjoin upon you the closing verses of Sūrat al-Naḥl: It has been related to us that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, when this verse was sent down, said: "We will rather be patient."
