Allah, the Exalted, says: Indeed, those who do not believe in the proofs (ḥujaj) and indications of Allah, and who therefore do not affirm what these indications point to — لَا يَهْدِيهِمُ اللَّهُ — Allah says: Allah does not grant them the enabling to attain the Truth, and He does not guide them to the path of sound understanding in this worldly life; and in the Hereafter, with Allah, when they come before Him on the Day of Judgment, they will undergo a painful, agonizing torment. Then Allah, the Exalted, proclaimed to the mushrikīn who said to the Prophet ﷺ, "You are merely a fabricator" — that they are the people of fabrication and lying, not the Prophet of Allah ﷺ nor those who believe in him. He absolved His Prophet ﷺ and his companions of this and said: Only those who do not affirm the proofs and reports of Allah fabricate the lie and repeat the falsehood — for they hope for no great reward for affirming the Truth, and fear no punishment for lying; they are the people of lying and of fabricating falsehood — not the one who hopes from Allah for a great reward for the Truth and fears for lying a painful punishment. His word وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ — He says: Those who do not believe in the signs (āyāt) of Allah are the people of lying — not the believers.
