So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.

His statement فَمَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ — He says: That which they perpetrated of corrupt deeds before that day did not avert the punishment of Allah from them.
