The Exalted says: The inhabitants of al-Ḥijr — they are the Thamūd, the people of Ṣāliḥ — يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا آمِنِينَ (they hew out houses from the mountains, secure): secure from the punishment of Allah. It was also said: secure from decay, because their houses hewn out of the mountains would not collapse. And it was said: secure from death.
