Tabari (1 passage)

Allah, may His mention be exalted, says: the guests of Ibrāhīm said to him: "We bring you glad tidings with a true certainty and with knowledge from Us that Allah has granted you a discerning boy. So do not be among those who despair of the mercy of Allah and give up all hope in it; rather accept the glad tidings that we bring you and receive them."

The Qurʾān reciters differed over the reading of His word مِنَ الْقَانِطِينَ . The majority of the reciters of the great cities read it as مِنَ الْقَانِطِينَ — with an alif. It has been transmitted concerning Yaḥyā ibn Waththāb that he read it as "al-Qāniṭīn" (without alif, with a kasra under the nūn).

The correct reading in this regard is that which the reciters of the great cities follow, on account of their common agreement upon it and the rarity of all that goes against it.
