قَالَ يَٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ

[Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"

    Then Allah, exalted be His praise, said: يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلا تَكُونَ مَعَ السَّاجِدِينَ — that is to say: what has prevented you from being among those who prostrate? As for the word "an" (أَنْ) in this verse: according to some of the Kūfan grammarians it is in the genitive, and according to some of the Baṣran grammarians it is in the accusative on account of the elision of the preposition.

    فقال الله تعالى ذكره ( يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلا تَكُونَ مَعَ السَّاجِدِينَ ) يقول: ما منعك من أن تكون مع الساجدين ، فأن في قول بعض نحويي الكوفة خفض، وفي قول بعض أهل البصرة نصب بفقد الخافض.
