Tafseer of Abraham · Ibrahim · 14:52
This [Qur'an] is notification for the people that they may be warned thereby and that they may know that He is but one God and that those of understanding will be reminded.
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
The Exalted — exalted be His renown — says: This Qurʾān is a proclamation (balāgh) for mankind; through it Allah has completed the establishment of the proof against them and removed their excuse by means of the admonitions and lessons He has sent down within it. وَلِيُنذَرُوا بِهِ: he says: and so that they may be warned thereby of the punishment of Allah and thereby be on their guard against His wrath — He has sent it down to His Prophet ﷺ. وَلِيَعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ: he says: and so that, through the proofs by which He has established the case against them within it, they may know that He is one God, not multiple gods, as the polytheists (mushrikīn) say — that there is no god but He, to Whom belongs all that is in the heavens and on the earth, Who has subjected for them the sun, the moon, the night, and the day, Who has sent down water from the sky by which He has brought forth fruits as rizq for them, Who has subjected for them the ships so that they sail through the sea by His command, and Who has subjected for them the rivers. وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ: he says: and so that the people of intellect and understanding may remember and be admonished by the proofs that Allah has established for them in this Qurʾān, and be restrained from setting up another god alongside Him or worshipping anything else besides Him — for they are the people of reflection and remembrance, in contrast to those without intellect and understanding, for those are like cattle, indeed even further astray from the path.
In accordance with what we have said the exegetes spoke.
Mention of who said that:
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning هَٰذَا بَلَاغٌ لِّلنَّاسِ: he said: the Qurʾān. وَلِيُنذَرُوا بِهِ: he said: by the Qurʾān. وَلِيَعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ وَلِيَذَّكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ.
End of the tafsīr of Sūrat Ibrāhīm — peace be upon him — and all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
