   The statement concerning the interpretation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَفِي ضَلالِكَ الْقَدِيمِ (They said: By Allah, you are indeed in your old error) (95)

   Abū Jaʿfar said: Allah the Exalted says: Those of his sons to whom Yaʿqūb had said: إِنِّي لأَجِدُ رِيحَ يُوسُفَ لَوْلا أَنْ تُفَنِّدُونِ (Indeed, I find the scent of Yūsuf — if you did not accuse me of senility) — said: By Allah, O man, through your love for Yūsuf and your continual remembrance of him you are indeed in your old error and misguidance — you do not forget him and you do not console yourself over him.

   In accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes spoke.

   Mention of who said that:

   19849 - Al-Muthannā related to me, saying: ʿAbd Allāh related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning his saying: (you are indeed in your old error) — he says: your old fault.

   19850 - Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: (They said: By Allah, you are indeed in your old error) — that is to say: through your love for Yūsuf you do not forget him and you do not console yourself over him. They spoke to their father a harsh word that they ought not to have said to their father, nor to a prophet of Allah ﷺ.

   19851 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, saying: ʿAmr related to us, on the authority of Asbāṭ, on the authority of al-Suddī: (They said: By Allah, you are indeed in your old error) — he said: in the matter of Yūsuf.

   19852 - Aḥmad related to us, saying: Abū Aḥmad related to us, saying: Sufyān said: (By Allah, you are indeed in your old error) — he said: through your love for Yūsuf.

   19853 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, saying: ʿAmr related to us, on the authority of Sufyān — similarly.

   19854 - Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: Al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj: (They said: By Allah, you are indeed in your old error) — he said: in your old love.

   19855 - Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq: (They said: By Allah, you are indeed in your old error) — that is to say: through the remembrance of Yūsuf you are in the folly upon which you persist.

   19856 - Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning his saying: (By Allah, you are indeed in your old error) — he said: they mean his old grief over Yūsuf. And "in your old error" means: in your old fault.

   القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : قَالُوا تَاللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَفِي ضَلالِكَ الْقَدِيمِ (95) قال أبو جعفر: يقول تعالى ذكره: قال الذين قال لهم يعقوب من ولده إِنِّي لأَجِدُ رِيحَ يُوسُفَ لَوْلا أَنْ تُفَنِّدُونِ : تالله، أيها الرجل ، إنك من حبّ يوسف وذكره لفي خطئك وزللك القديم (37) لا تنساه ، ولا تتسلى عنه . وبنحو الذي قلنا في ذلك قال أهل التأويل . *ذكر من قال ذلك: 19849- حدثني المثنى قال، حدثنا عبد الله قال، حدثني معاوية ، عن علي ، عن ابن عباس ، قوله: ( إنك لفي ضلالك القديم ) ، يقول: خطائك القديم. 19850- حدثنا بشر ، قال، حدثنا يزيد قال، حدثنا سعيد ، عن قتادة: ( قالوا تالله إنك لفي ضلالك القديم ) أي :من حب يوسف لا تنساه ولا تسلاه. قالوا لوالدهم كلمةً غليظة، لم يكن ينبغي لهم أن يقولوها لوالدهم، ولا لنبيّ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم. 19851- حدثنا ابن وكيع قال، حدثنا عمرو ، عن أسباط ، عن السدي: ( قالوا تالله إنك لفي ضلالك القديم ) ، قال: في شأن يوسف. 19852- حدثنا أحمد قال، حدثنا أبو أحمد ، قال، قال سفيان: ( تالله إنك لفي ضلالك القديم ) ، قال:من حبك ليوسف. 19853- حدثنا ابن وكيع. قال، حدثنا عمرو ، عن سفيان ، نحوه . 19854- حدثنا القاسم ، قال، حدثنا الحسين ، قال:حدثني حجاج ، عن ابن جريج: ( قالوا تالله إنك لفي ضلالك القديم ) ، قال:في حبك القديم. 19855- حدثنا ابن حميد ، قال، حدثنا سلمة ، عن ابن إسحاق: ( قالوا تالله إنك لفي ضلالك القديم ) ، أي إنك لمن ذكر يوسف في الباطل الذي أنت عليه. 19856- حدثني يونس قال، أخبرنا ابن وهب ، قال، قال ابن زيد في قوله: ( تالله إنك لفي ضلالك القديم ) ، قال:يعنون:حزنه القديم على يوسف ، " وفي ضلالك القديم ": لفي خطائك القديم. ---------------------- الهوامش: (37) في المخطوطة :" لفي حطامك في ذلك القديم" غير منقوطة ، والصواب ما في المطبوعة . ولكنه كتب هناك :" خطئك" مكان" خطائك" ، وهما بمعنى واحد . وسيأتي في مواضع أخرى ، سأصححها على رسم المخطوطة .
