   The discourse on the explanation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: وَاسْأَلِ الْقَرْيَةَ الَّتِي كُنَّا فِيهَا وَالْعِيرَ الَّتِي أَقْبَلْنَا فِيهَا وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ (And ask the town in which we were, and the caravan with which we have come back; and indeed we are truthful) (82)

   Abū Jaʿfar said: He says: And if you do not trust us and do not believe us in what we say about the theft committed by your son — (then ask the town in which we were), and that is Egypt; he says: ask those who dwell in it, (and the caravan with which we have come back), and that is the caravan that traveled along with us, with which we came back — ask about the news of your son and the truth of what we have reported to you concerning his theft, and you will hear the confirmation of it. (And indeed we are truthful) in what we have reported to you concerning his affair.

   In accordance with what we have said about this, the exegetes spoke.

   Mention of those who said that:

   19641 — Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning his saying: (And ask the town in which we were) — and that is Egypt.

   19642 — Al-Qāsim related to us, he said: Al-Ḥusayn related to us, he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, who said: Ibn ʿAbbās said: (And ask the town in which we were) — he meant: Egypt.

   19643 — Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Salama related to us, on the authority of Ibn Isḥāq, who said: Rūbīl had recognized in his reply to his brothers that they were regarded as suspects in the eyes of their father, because of what they had done with Yūsuf. And their word to him: (ask the town in which we were, and the caravan with which we have come back) — they have known what we knew and they have seen what we have seen, if you do not believe us. (And indeed we are truthful).

   القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : وَاسْأَلِ الْقَرْيَةَ الَّتِي كُنَّا فِيهَا وَالْعِيرَ الَّتِي أَقْبَلْنَا فِيهَا وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ (82) قال أبو جعفر : يقول: وإن كنتَ مُتَّهمًا لنا، لا تصدقنا على ما نقول من أن ابنك سرق: ( فاسأل القرية التي كنا فيها )، وهي مصر، يقول: سل من فيها من أهلها ، (والعير التي أقبلنا فيها) ، وهي القافلة التي كنا فيها ، (13) التي أقبلنا منها معها ، عن خبر ابنك وحقيقة ما أخبرناك عنه من سَرَقِهِ ، (14) فإنك تَخْبُرمصداق ذلك ، (وإنّا لصادقون) فيما أخبرناك من خبره . * * * وبنحو الذي قلنا في ذلك قال أهل التأويل. *ذكر من قال ذلك: 19641 - حدثنا بشر قال، حدثنا يزيد قال، حدثنا سعيد ، عن قتادة ، قوله: (واسأل القرية التي كنا فيها)، وهي مصر. 19642 - حدثنا القاسم قال، حدثنا الحسين قال، حدثني حجاج ، عن ابن جريج قال، قال ابن عباس: (واسأل القرية التي كنا فيها) قال: يعنون مصر. 19643 - حدثنا ابن حميد قال، حدثنا سلمة ، عن ابن إسحاق قال: قد عرف رُوبيل في رَجْع قوله لإخوته، أنهم أهلُ تُهمةٍ عند أبيهم ، لما كانوا صنعوا في يوسف . وقولهم له: (اسأل القرية التي كنا فيها والعير التي أقبلنا فيها) ، فقد علموا ما علمنا وشهدوا ما شهدنا، إن كنت لا تصدقنا ، (وإنا لصادقون). * * * ---------------------- الهوامش: (13) انظر تفسير :" العير" فيما سلف ص : 173 ، 174 .
