The statement concerning the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: "And the one of the two who had been saved, and who remembered after a period of time, said: I will inform you of its interpretation, so send me forth" (45)
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says: And the one of the two prison companions — who had asked Yūsuf for the interpretation of the dream — who had been saved from death, said. (And he remembered), that is: and he remembered what he had forgotten of the affair of Yūsuf, and remembered his request to the king, which he had asked of him when interpreting his dream, namely that he should mention him to him, with his words: "Mention me to your lord." (After a period of time), that is: after a time, as in the following:-

* * *
Abū Jaʿfar said: And this interpretation rests upon the reading of the one who recites: (baʿda ummatin) with a ḍamma on the alif and a doubling (tashdīd) of the mīm, and that is the reading of the reciters in the lands of Islam.
* * *
And it has been transmitted from a group of the early ones that they recited this as: "baʿda amatin" with a fatḥa on the alif, and a lightening (takhfīf) of the mīm with a fatḥa upon it, with the meaning: after forgetfulness.
* * *
And some of them mentioned that the Arabs say in that regard: "amiha al-rajulu yaʾmahu amahan", when he forgets.
* * *
And thus also did the one who recited it in that manner interpret it.
Mention of who said that:
19354- Al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad related to us, saying: ʿAffān related to us, saying: Hammām related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, on the authority of ʿIkrima, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, that he used to recite: "baʿda amahin" and he interpreted it as: after forgetfulness.
19355- Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Bahz ibn Asad related to us, on the authority of Hammām, on the authority of Qatāda, on the authority of ʿIkrima, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, that he recited: "baʿda amahin", he says: after forgetfulness.
19356- Abū Ghassān Mālik ibn al-Khalīl al-Yaḥmadī related to me, saying: Ibn Abī ʿAdī related to us, on the authority of Abū Hārūn al-Ghanawī, on the authority of ʿIkrima, that he recited: "baʿda amahin", and "al-amah" is: forgetfulness.
19357- Yaʿqūb and Ibn Wakīʿ related to me, both of them saying: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, saying: Abū Hārūn al-Ghanawī related to us, on the authority of ʿIkrima, the same.
19358- Al-Ḥasan ibn Muḥammad related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Wahhāb related to us, saying: Hārūn said: and Abū Hārūn al-Ghanawī related to me, on the authority of ʿIkrima: "baʿda amahin", after forgetfulness.
19359- [illegible] he said: ʿAbd al-Wahhāb related to us, on the authority of Saʿīd, on the authority of Qatāda, on the authority of ʿIkrima: "And he remembered after forgetfulness (baʿda amahin)": after forgetfulness.
19360- Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: that is: after forgetfulness.
19361- Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda: "And he remembered after forgetfulness (baʿda amahin)", he said: after his forgetting of it.
19362- Al-Muthannā related to me, saying: Abū al-Nuʿmān ʿĀrim related to us, saying: Ḥammād ibn Zayd related to us, on the authority of ʿAbd al-Karīm Abū Umayya al-Muʿallim, on the authority of Mujāhid: that he recited: "And he remembered after forgetfulness (baʿda amahin)".
19363- Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, saying: ʿAmr ibn Muḥammad related to us, on the authority of Abū Marzūq, on the authority of Juwaybir, on the authority of al-Ḍaḥḥāk: (And he remembered after a period of time / forgetfulness) he said: after forgetfulness.
19364- It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Faraj, he said: I heard Abū Muʿādh saying: ʿUbayd ibn Sulaymān related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk saying concerning His saying: "And he remembered after forgetfulness (baʿda amahin)", he says: after forgetfulness.
* * *
And a third reading has been transmitted concerning it, and that is the following:-
19365- Al-Muthannā related it to me, saying: Isḥāq informed us, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Ḥumayd, he said: Mujāhid recited: "And he remembered after a lapse (baʿda amhin)", with a sukūn on the mīm and a lightening (takhfīf).
* * *
And it is as though the one who recited it thus intended thereby the maṣdar (the verbal noun) of their saying: "amaha yaʾmahu amhan", and the interpretation of this reading is identical to the interpretation of the one who read the alif and the mīm with a fatḥa.
* * *
And His saying: (I will inform you of its interpretation) — he says: I will inform you about its interpretation — (so send me forth), he says: so release me, then I shall go to bring you its interpretation from the one who knows it.
