They said, "O our father, why do you not entrust us with Joseph while indeed, we are to him sincere counselors?

The explanation of the words of Allah the Exalted: قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا مَا لَكَ لا تَأْمَنَّا عَلَى يُوسُفَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَنَاصِحُونَ (They said: "O our father, why do you not trust us with Yūsuf, while we are indeed his well-wishers?") (verse 11)
Abū Jaʿfar says: Allah the Exalted says: The brothers of Yūsuf said — after they had conspired together and resolved unanimously to bring about a separation between him and his father Yaʿqūb — to their father Yaʿqūb: (O our father, why do you not trust us with Yūsuf?) so that you would let him be with us when we leave the city and go out to the wilderness. (And indeed, we are his well-wishers) — we will protect him and guard him.
