And how many a sign within the heavens and earth do they pass over while they, therefrom, are turning away.

The explanation of the word of Allah, the Exalted: وَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ آيَةٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ يَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهَا وَهُمْ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضُونَ (105)
Abū Jaʿfar said: the Exalted says: and how many signs are there in the heavens and the earth pointing to Allah, and proofs and arguments; these are things such as the sun and the moon and the stars and the like among the signs of the heavens, and such as the mountains and the seas and the plants and the trees and the rest of the signs of the earth; يمرّون عليها — He says: they behold them and pass by them, while they turn away from them and do not pause over them and do not reflect upon them, nor upon what they prove of the oneness of their Creator and the fact that divinity (al-ulūhiyya) belongs only to the One, the Overwhelming, who created them and created everything and governed them.
In a sense like what we have said concerning this, the exegetes spoke.

19953 — Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: وكأين من آية في السماوات والأرض يمرون عليها — and in the Qurʾān of ʿAbd Allāh it reads: "yamshūna ʿalayhā" (they walk over it). The heaven and the earth are two tremendous signs.
