وَمَآ أَكْثَرُ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

And most of the people, although you strive [for it], are not believers.

    The explanation of the word of Allah, the Exalted: وَمَا أَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ (103)

    Abū Jaʿfar said: the Exalted says: most of the polytheists of your people, O Muḥammad, will — even though you strive for them to believe in you and affirm you and follow what you have brought them from your Lord — neither affirm you nor follow you.

    القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : وَمَا أَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ (103) قال أبو جعفر: يقول جل ثناؤه: وما أكثر مشركي قومك، يا محمد، ولو حرصت على أن يؤمنوا بك فيصدّقوك , ويتبعوا ما جئتهم به من عند ربك، بمصدِّقيك ولا مُتَّبِعيك .
