As for His statement: الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ — by it He means: the satanic whisperer who whispers into the hearts of mankind (al-nās): both their jinn and their humans.

If someone says: are the jinn then human beings (nās)? such that it is said: the jinn whispers into the hearts of mankind, and these are the jinn and the humans — the answer is: Allah has called them nās (people) in this place, just as He has called them rijāl (men) in another place, where He said: وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِنَ الإِنْسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِنَ الْجِنِّ (and that there were men among humankind who sought refuge with men among the jinn) — and thus He made the jinn to be men; likewise He made some of them to be nās.

It has been related from some of the Arabs that during a conversation a man said: there came people (nās) of the jinn and stood [there]; it was asked: who are you? They said: nās of the jinn. Thus he made some of them nās, and likewise it is in the Revelation.
