As for His statement: الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ — by this He means: the satanic whisperer who whispers into the hearts of mankind: both their jinn and their humans.
If someone says: are the jinn then humans (nās)? such that it is said: the jinn whisper into the hearts of mankind, and those are the jinn and the humans — one answers: Allah has named them nās (people) in this place, just as He named them rijāl (men) in another place, and said: وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِنَ الإِنْسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِنَ الْجِنِّ (there were men among humankind who sought refuge with men among the jinn) — and thus He made the jinn into men; likewise He made some of them into nās.
It has been related from some of the Arabs that someone said during a conversation: people of the jinn came and stood [there]; it was asked: who are you? They said: nās of the jinn. Thus he made some of them nās, and likewise it is in the Revelation.
