He neither begets nor is born,

And His words لَمْ يَلِدْ — that is to say: He is not perishable, for nothing begets except that which is perishable and transitory.
وَلَمْ يُولَدْ — that is to say: and He is not a thing that did not exist and then came into being, for every begotten being exists only after it did not exist, and it came into being after it was not present. But He, the Exalted whose remembrance be glorified, is ancient from eternity, having always been, eternal without beginning; He does not pass away nor perish.
