The discourse on the explanation of the words of Allah, the Exalted, whose praise is glorified and whose names are sanctified: إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ (When the help of Allah and the victory come.) — (110:1)
Allah, the Exalted, whose remembrance is glorified, addresses His prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: When the help of Allah comes to you, O Muḥammad, over your people from the Quraysh, and the victory — the conquest of Mecca — وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ — from the tribes of the Arabs and their confederations, the people of Yemen among them, and the tribes of Nizār — يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا — that is to say: into the religion of Allah with which He has sent you, and your obedience to which He has called them, in groups — that is to say: in throngs, troop after troop.
With what we have said concerning this, the scholars of the explanation are in agreement.
Mention of those who said what we have said concerning His words إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ:
Al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: Al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning the words of Allah إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ: the conquest of Mecca.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning the words of Allah إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ: the victory, when Allah made him victorious and helped him.
Ismāʿīl ibn Mūsā related to me, saying: Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿĪsā al-Ḥanafī informed us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of al-Zuhrī, on the authority of Abī Ḥāzim, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in Medina, he said: "Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar! The help of Allah and the victory have come, the people of Yemen have come." It was said: O Messenger of Allah, and who are the people of Yemen? He said: "A people whose hearts are tender and whose nature is yielding. Faith (īmān) is Yemeni, understanding (fiqh) is Yemeni, and wisdom is Yemeni."
