Tafseer of Hud · Hud · 11:89
And O my people, let not [your] dissension from me cause you to be struck by that similar to what struck the people of Noah or the people of Hud or the people of Salih. And the people of Lot are not from you far away.

The explanation of the words of Allah the Exalted: وَيَا قَوْمِ لا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شِقَاقِي أَنْ يُصِيبَكُمْ مِثْلُ مَا أَصَابَ قَوْمَ نُوحٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ هُودٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ صَالِحٍ وَمَا قَوْمُ لُوطٍ مِنْكُمْ بِبَعِيدٍ (And O my people, let not my dissension cause you to be afflicted by the like of what afflicted the people of Nūḥ, or the people of Hūd, or the people of Ṣāliḥ; and the people of Lūṭ are not far from you.) [11:89]
Abū Jaʿfar said: Allah the Exalted says, while recounting what Shuʿayb said to his people: (And O my people, let not my dissension cause you) — that is: let not my enmity and my aversion, and my breaking with the religion upon which I stand, cause you to persist in disbelief in Allah, in worshipping idols, in shortchanging the people in measure and weight, and in failing to repent and turn back — so that there afflicts you (the like of what afflicted the people of Nūḥ), namely the drowning, (or the people of Hūd), namely the punishment (ʿadhāb), (or the people of Ṣāliḥ), namely the earthquake, (and the people of Lūṭ) — whom the earth swallowed up in their land — (are not far from you) with respect to their destruction. Will you then not take a lesson from this? — that is: take, then, an example from these peoples, and be on your guard lest, through my dissension, there afflict you the like of what afflicted them.

18506 — Al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā related to us and said: ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us and said: Maʿmar informed us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word: (and the people of Lūṭ are not far from you) — he said: they were only of a nearby era, after Nūḥ and Thamūd.
Abū Jaʿfar said: It may also be said that its meaning is: and the dwelling place of the people of Lūṭ is not far from you.
