فَكِيدُونِي جَمِيعًا — that is to say: then devise together, you and your gods, schemes and plots to harm me and to inflict evil upon me. ثُمَّ لا تُنْظِرُونِ — that is to say: do not grant me respite thereafter; then see whether you and they can strike me with the evil with which you claimed your gods had struck me.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes spoke.
Mention of who said that:
18267 — Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, saying: Ibn Numayr related to us, on the authority of Warqāʾ, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ — "the idols have struck you with madness."
18268 — Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ — "the idols have struck you with madness."
18269 — Al-Muthanná related to me, saying: Ibn Dukayn related to us, saying: Sufyān related to us, on the authority of ʿĪsā, on the authority of Mujāhid: اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ — "you have insulted our gods and mocked them, and they have driven you mad."
18270 — [...] he said: Abū Ḥudhayfa related to us, saying: Shibil related to us, on the authority of Ibn Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ — "some of our gods have struck you with evil" — by that they meant the idols.
18271 — [...] he said: Isḥāq related to us, saying: ʿAbdallāh related to us, on the authority of Warqāʾ, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: إِنْ نَقُولُ إِلا اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ — "the idols have struck you with madness."
18272 — Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to us, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His words إِنْ نَقُولُ إِلا اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ : "our gods will strike you with madness."
18273 — Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda: إِلا اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ — "what moves you to criticize our gods is only that you have suffered evil from them."
18274 — Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His words إِنْ نَقُولُ إِلا اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ : "you do this to our gods only because they have struck you with evil."
18275 — Al-Qāsim related to us, saying: Al-Ḥusayn related to us, saying: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, who said: ʿAbdallāh ibn Kathīr said: "our gods have inflicted evil upon you."
18276 — It was related to me on the authority of Al-Ḥusayn, who said: I heard Abū Muʿādh saying: ʿUbayd ibn Sulaymān related to us, saying: I heard Al-Ḍaḥḥāk saying concerning His words إِنْ نَقُولُ إِلا اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ : "they say: we fear that our gods will do you evil, and we do not want them to strike you" — so they say: that evil shall strike you from them.
18277 — Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His words إِنْ نَقُولُ إِلا اعْتَرَاكَ بَعْضُ آلِهَتِنَا بِسُوءٍ : "they say: your mind has become deranged, and this has befallen you through what our gods have done to you."
As for His words اعْتَرَاكَ : this is the pattern iftaʿala from "ʿarānī al-shayʾ yaʿrūnī" — when it befalls you, as the poet said: "of the people who are assailed by brutality and sin."
