The explanation of the word of Allah the Exalted: قَالُوا يَا نُوحُ قَدْ جَادَلْتَنَا فَأَكْثَرْتَ جِدَالَنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ("They said: 'O Noah, you have disputed with us and made your dispute with us excessive. So bring upon us what you promise us, if you are of the truthful.'") (32)
Abū Jaʿfar said: Allah the Exalted says: The people of Noah said to Noah, may peace be upon him: You have disputed with us and made your dispute with us excessive. So bring upon us what you promise us of the punishment, if you are of the truthful in your promises and in your claim that you are a messenger of Allah to us. By this they meant that he would not be capable of doing so.

("You have made your dispute excessive, so bring upon us what you promise us") — Ibn Jurayj said: as a denial of the punishment and as a claim that it was false.
