    The explanation of the meaning of the word of Allah the Exalted: الَّذِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا وَهُمْ بِالآخِرَةِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ (19)

(Those who turn others away from the path of Allah, and who wish to see that path crooked, and who do not believe in the Hereafter.)

Abū Jaʿfar says: Allah the Exalted says: "Truly, the curse of Allah rests upon the wrongdoers — those who hold the people back from belief in Him, and from the profession of His servitude, and from the sincere worship of Him alone, instead of the idols and the partners ascribed to Him, namely the polytheists (mushrikīn) of Quraysh. They are the ones who tried and tested those who had embraced Islam and turned them away from Islam."

وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا — He says: and they seek the path of Allah — which is Islam, to which Muhammad ﷺ called the people — with deviation and bending away from straightness.

وَهُمْ بِالآخِرَةِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ — He says: and they are — in addition to their turning away from the path of Allah and their striving to make that path crooked — with respect to the resurrection after death kāfirūn: that is, they deny that and reject it.
