And His word: مَا الْقَارِعَةُ (What is the Striking Calamity?) — the Exalted, whose praise is glorified, says this in order to magnify the gravity of the Resurrection and the Hour, whereby the servants are struck with dread of it: 'What is the Striking Calamity?' — that is to say: what is the Hour that strikes the creation through dread of it? That is to say: how tremendous, how dreadful, and how awe-inspiring it is.
