The discourse on the explanation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: هُوَ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ (He is the One Who gives life and causes death, and to Him you shall be returned.) (10:56)
Abū Jaʿfar said: Allah the Exalted says: Truly, Allah is the One Who gives life and causes death (al-muḥyī al-mumīt). It is in no way burdensome for Him to do what He wills to do — namely, the bringing back to life of these polytheists (mushrikīn) when He wills that they be raised to life after their death, nor the causing of them to die when He wills it. And after their death they shall return to Him, whereupon they shall behold with their own eyes that about which they had lied concerning the threat of Allah and His punishment.
