The explanation of the meaning of the word of Allah the Exalted:
Abū Jaʿfar says: Allah the Exalted says: ثم قيل للذين ظلموا — that is to say: to those who have wronged themselves through their disbelief (kufr) in Allah — ذوقوا عذاب الخلد: "taste the eternal punishment (ʿadhāb) of Allah that endures for you forever, that has no end and will not cease" — هل تجزون إلا بما كنتم تكسبون: that is to say: it is said to them: "Now consider: are you requited with anything other than what you have earned? That is: are you recompensed with anything other than what you did during your life before your death by way of transgressions against the command of Allah?"
