Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

His statement: فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا * إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ("Indeed, with hardship comes ease * indeed, with hardship comes ease") — He, exalted be His mention, says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: Indeed, together with the difficulty in which you find yourself on account of the struggle (jihād) against these polytheists (mushrikīn), and from the outset of that with which you are charged, come hope and relief, in that He grants you victory over them, until they submit to the truth that you have brought them, willingly and unwillingly.
It has been related from the Prophet ﷺ that, when this verse was revealed, he gave his Companions glad tidings with it and said: "One hardship will never overcome two eases."

Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān related to us, saying: I heard Yūnus, he said: al-Ḥasan said: when this verse فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ("Indeed, with hardship comes ease") was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Rejoice, ease has come to you; one hardship will never overcome two eases."
Yaʿqūb related to me, saying: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, on the authority of Yūnus, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, something similar, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ.
Muḥammad ibn al-Muthannā related to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar related to us, saying: ʿAwf related to us, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, something similar.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, he said: the Prophet ﷺ went out one day cheerful and glad, laughing, and he said: "One hardship will never overcome two eases, one hardship will never overcome two eases — فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا * إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ('Indeed, with hardship comes ease * indeed, with hardship comes ease')."
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement: فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ("Indeed, with hardship comes ease") — we have been told that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave his Companions glad tidings with this verse, and said: "One hardship will never overcome two eases."
Ibn al-Muthannā related to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Muʿāwiya ibn Qurra Abū Iyās, on the authority of a man, on the authority of ʿAbdallāh ibn Masʿūd, he said: If hardship were to enter a hole, ease would come until it enters in upon it, for Allah says: فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا * إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ("Indeed, with hardship comes ease * indeed, with hardship comes ease").
Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Wakīʿ related to us, on the authority of Shuʿba, on the authority of a man, on the authority of ʿAbdallāh, something similar.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Waraqāʾ related to us, both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ("Indeed, with hardship comes ease") — he said: ease follows upon hardship.
