The explanation of His word: قُلْ لَنْ يُصِيبَنَا إِلا مَا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوْلانَا وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ (51) (Say: "Nothing shall befall us except what Allāh has prescribed for us. He is our Protector, and upon Allāh let the believers rely." (51))
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted — praised be His remembrance — says, while He instructs His prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: "Say" — O Muḥammad — to these hypocrites (munāfiqīn) who stayed behind and did not go out with you: "nothing shall befall us" — O you who doubt in your religion (dīn) — "except what Allāh has prescribed for us", in the well-preserved Tablet (al-lawḥ al-maḥfūẓ), and what He has decreed concerning us. "He is our Protector (mawlā)", that is to say: He is our Helper against His enemies. "And upon Allāh let the believers rely", that is to say: and upon Allāh let the believers place their trust, for if they rely upon Him, and expect no help from any other than Him, and fear nothing except Him, then He will fulfill their affairs for them and grant them victory over those who wronged them and conspired against them.
