The explanation of His word: وَقُلِ اعْمَلُوا فَسَيَرَى اللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَسَتُرَدُّونَ إِلَى عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ (105) (And say: "Act! Allah will see your deeds, and so will His Messenger and the believers. And you will be brought back to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do.") (105)
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose praise is mentioned, says to His Prophet Muḥammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: وقل (And say), O Muḥammad, to those who have acknowledged their sins before you, namely the ones who stayed behind and did not take part in the jihād with you: اعملوا (act) for Allah with that which pleases Him, in obedience to Him and the fulfillment of His obligations. فسيرى الله عملكم ورسوله (Allah will see your deeds, and so will His Messenger), He says: Allah will, if you act, see your deeds, and His Messenger and the believers will also see them, in this world. وستردون (And you will be brought back), on the Day of Resurrection, to Him who knows your secrets and your open deeds, so that nothing of the hidden and the visible of your affairs remains concealed from Him. فينبئكم بما كنتم تعملون (and He will inform you of what you used to do), He says: He will make known to you what you used to do, and what of it was sincere, and what of it was for show (riyāʾ), and what of it was obedience, and what of it was disobedience toward Allah. Then He will requite you for all of that according to your due: the doer of good according to his good, and the doer of evil according to his evil.

17173 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, saying: Ibn Yamān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of a man, on the authority of Mujāhid: وقل اعملوا فسيرى الله عملكم ورسوله والمؤمنون (And say: "Act! Allah will see your deeds, and so will His Messenger and the believers"), he said: this is a threat.
