The discourse on the explanation of His statement: وَإِنْ يُرِيدُوا أَنْ يَخْدَعُوكَ فَإِنَّ حَسْبَكَ اللَّهُ هُوَ الَّذِي أَيَّدَكَ بِنَصْرِهِ وَبِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ (And if they intend to deceive you, then indeed Allah is sufficient for you; He it is who has strengthened you with His help and with the believers) (62).
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: And if these, O Muḥammad — those whom I have commanded you to repudiate [the treaty] toward them on equal terms if you fear treachery from them, and with whom I have commanded you to make peace if they incline to peace — intend to deceive you and to plot against you, فإن حسبك الله (then indeed Allah is sufficient for you), He says: then Allah is sufficient for you against them and protects you from their deceit toward you, for He guarantees the triumph of your religion over [all other] religions, and He warrants that He will make His word the highest and the word of His enemies the lowest. هو الذي أيدك بنصره (He it is who has strengthened you with His help), He says: Allah is He who has strengthened you with His help to you against your enemies. وبالمؤمنين (and with the believers), He means: with the Anṣār (the helpers of Medina).
