The Exalted, praised be His mention, says — as a threat and a warning from Him to those who deny the resurrection: eat during the remainder of your appointed terms and enjoy the residue of the years of your lives ( innakum mujrimūn ) ("truly, you are criminals") — you are dealt with according to the way of those who were before you among the criminals of the perished communities, who enjoyed the years of their lives until their predestined terms were reached, whereupon Allāh took vengeance upon them on account of their disbelief and their denial of their messengers.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His word: ( kulū wa-tamattaʿū qalīlan innakum mujrimūn ) ("eat and enjoy a little; truly, you are criminals"): he said: by this were meant the people of disbelief (ahl al-kufr).
