And His word: ( وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ شَامِخَاتٍ ) "and We placed therein firmly anchored, towering mountains". The Exalted, whose mention is high, says: and We placed in the earth mountains that are firmly fixed therein, lofty and towering high.
As Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: ( وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ شَامِخَاتٍ ) "and We placed therein firmly anchored, towering mountains", he means the mountains.
ʿAlī related to me, he said: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, he said: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: ( رَوَاسِيَ شَامِخَاتٍ ) "firmly anchored, towering mountains", he says: high-towering mountains.
And His word: ( وَأَسْقَيْنَاكُمْ مَاءً فُرَاتًا ) "and We gave you sweet water to drink". He says: and We gave you sweet, pleasant water to drink.
And in accordance with what we have said about that, the exegetes have spoken.

And all the water that the son of Adam drinks comes from these rivers, and they flow forth from beneath a rock at Jerusalem. As for the Sayḥān, it is at Balkh; as for the Jayḥān, it is the Tigris; as for the Euphrates, it is the Euphrates of Kūfa; and as for the Nile, it is in Egypt.
