His statement: وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ("Woe on that Day to those who deny") — the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: the valley that flows in Hell (jahannam) from the pus of its inhabitants is for those who deny the Day of Decision.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ("Woe on that Day to those who deny") — "woe" (wayl), by Allah, is long.
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: Did We not destroy the bygone peoples who denied My messengers and rejected My signs — among them the people of Nūḥ, and ʿĀd and Thamūd? Then We make the later [peoples] follow them, [namely] those who after them trod their path in disbelief (kufr) in Me and in My messenger, such as the people of Ibrāhīm, the people of Lūṭ, and the inhabitants of Madyan; and We destroy them just as We destroyed the first ones before them.
