The explanation of His word: وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُمْ بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ (7:80) (And Lūṭ, when he said to his people: "Do you commit the abomination (al-fāḥisha) that no one among the worlds before you has committed?")

Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose praise is mentioned, says: and indeed, We sent Lūṭ.

And if it were said that the meaning is: and remember Lūṭ, O Muḥammad, (when he said to his people) — since in the wording there occurs no connection with "the sending" (al-risāla) as there was in the mention of ʿĀd and Thamūd — then that would be an acceptable interpretation.

And His word: (when he said to his people), He says: when he said to his people of Sodom, to whom Lūṭ had been sent = (Do you commit the abomination), and their abomination (al-fāḥisha) which they used to commit, for which Allah punished them, was coming to men (the sexual approaching of men) = (that no one among the worlds before you has committed), He says: no one among the worlds has preceded you in committing this abomination, and that is like the following:

14833 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, he said: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayya related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, concerning His word: (that no one among the worlds before you has committed), he said: no man was seen upon a man (in such intercourse) until the people of Lūṭ existed.
