The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: "But his Lord chose him and made him one of the righteous" (68:50).

The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: His Lord chose the companion of the fish, that is: He selected him and singled him out for his prophethood. "And made him one of the righteous" (fa-jaʿalahu mina al-ṣāliḥīn) means: one of those sent who acted according to what their Lord commanded them and refrained from what He forbade them.
