The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: Your possessions, O people, and your children are nothing but a trial (fitna), that is to say: a tribulation for you in the life of this world.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the scholars of exegesis have spoken.
* Mention of those who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word: Indeed, your possessions and your children are a trial. He says: a tribulation.
And His word: And with Allah is a tremendous reward means: and with Allah is for you a tremendous reward, when you oppose your children and wives for the sake of obedience to Allah, your Lord, and when you obey Allah, mighty and exalted is He, and render the right of Allah due upon your possessions. And the tremendous reward that is with Allah is the Garden (janna).
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: And with Allah is a tremendous reward — and that is the Garden.
