   The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: Are they waiting for anything other than that the angels should come to them, or that your Lord should come, or that some of the signs of your Lord should come . The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: Are these people, who set up alongside their Lord idols and statues as equals, waiting for anything other than that the angels should come to them with death to take their souls, or that your Lord, O Muḥammad (the Prophet ﷺ), should come amid His creatures at the standing-place of the Resurrection? Or that some of the signs of your Lord should come says: or that some of the signs of your Lord should come to them; and that is, as the people of interpretation said: the rising of the sun from its western setting-place.

   Mention of those of the people of interpretation who said that:

   11050 - Al-Muthannā related to me, he said: Abū Ḥudhayfa related to us, he said: Shibl related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: that the angels should come to them he says: at death, when they take them away; or that your Lord should come that is on the Day of Resurrection; or that some of the signs of your Lord should come the rising of the sun from its western setting-place.

   11051 - Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, he said: Muḥammad ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda: that the angels should come to them with death, or that your Lord should come on the Day of Resurrection, or that some of the signs of your Lord should come he said: a sign that makes it inevitable, namely the rising of the sun from its western setting-place, or whatever Allah wills.

   - Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His saying: Are they waiting for anything other than that the angels should come to them he says: with death, or that your Lord should come and that is on the Day of Resurrection, or that some of the signs of your Lord should come .

   11052 - Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to me, he said: Aḥmad ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, he said: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: Are they waiting for anything other than that the angels should come to them at death, or that some of the signs of your Lord should come he says: the rising of the sun from its western setting-place.

   11053 - Ibn Wakīʿ and Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, both of them said: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of Abū al-Ḍuḥā, on the authority of Masrūq, he said: ʿAbdallāh (ibn Masʿūd) said concerning His saying: Are they waiting for anything other than that the angels should come to them, or that your Lord should come, or that some of the signs of your Lord should come he said: they will reach the morning while the sun and the moon rise from here, from the west, like two coupled camels. Ibn Ḥumayd added in his narration: that is when no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before or earn some good in its faith and he said: like two coupled camels.

   11054 - Al-Qāsim related to us, he said: al-Ḥusayn related to us, he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, concerning His saying: Are they waiting for anything other than that the angels should come to them who take the souls with death, or that your Lord should come on the Day of Resurrection, or that some of the signs of your Lord should come .

   The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before or earn some good in its faith .

   The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, it will not benefit whoever was a polytheist before that to believe after the coming of that sign. And it is said: that sign, of which Allah, whose praise is exalted, informed that the faith of the unbeliever will not benefit him at its coming, is the rising of the sun from its western setting-place.

   Mention of those who said that and what is related concerning it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:

   11055 - ʿĪsā ibn ʿUthmān al-Ramlī related to me, he said: Yaḥyā ibn ʿĪsā related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Laylā, on the authority of ʿAṭiyya, on the authority of Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said concerning On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul's faith will benefit it : "The rising of the sun from its western setting-place." * Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, he said: my father related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Laylā, on the authority of ʿAṭiyya, on the authority of Abū Saʿīd, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, the like of it.

   11057 - ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Bayān al-Yashkurī and Isḥāq ibn Shāhīn related to us, both of them said: Khālid ibn ʿAbdallāh al-Ṭaḥḥān informed us, on the authority of Yūnus, on the authority of Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Abū Dharr, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said one day: "Do you know where this sun goes?" They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: "It goes to its resting-place beneath the Throne, and it falls down in prostration, and it remains thus until it is said to it: rise up from wherever you wish! Then it reaches the morning, rising from its place of rising. Then it travels until it comes to a resting-place for it beneath the Throne, and it falls down in prostration, and it remains thus until it is said to it: rise up from wherever you wish! Then it reaches the morning, rising from its place of rising. Then it travels, and the people notice nothing strange about it, until it comes and falls down in prostration at a resting-place for it beneath the Throne, and the people reach the morning without noticing anything strange about it; then it is said to it: rise up from your west! Then it reaches the morning, rising from its western setting-place." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do you know what day that is?" They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: "That is the day on which no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before, or earn some good in its faith." - Muʾammal ibn Hishām and Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm related to us, both of them said: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, on the authority of Yūnus, on the authority of Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd al-Taymī, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Abū Dharr, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, something similar.

   11059 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, he said: my father related to us, on the authority of Abū ʿAwn, on the authority of Ibn Sīrīn, on the authority of Abū Hurayra, he said: Repentant return is accepted as long as the sun has not risen from its western setting-place.

   11060 - Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Tirmidhī related to us, he said: Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to us, he said: Ibn ʿAyyāsh related to us, he said: Ḍamḍam ibn Zurʿa related to us, on the authority of Shurayḥ ibn ʿUbayd, on the authority of Mālik ibn Yukhāmir, on the authority of Muʿāwiya ibn Abī Sufyān and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf and ʿAbdallāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, on the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said: "Repentant return remains accepted until the sun rises from its western setting-place; and when it rises, there is sealed upon every heart what is in it, and people are spared the performing of works." * Abū Kurayb related to us, he said: Abū Usāma and Jaʿfar ibn ʿAwn related to us something similar.

   11061 - Yaʿqūb related to me, he said: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, on the authority of Abū Ḥayyān al-Taymī, on the authority of Abū Zurʿa, he said: Three Muslims were sitting with Marwān ibn al-Ḥakam in Medina, and they heard him relating concerning the signs, that the first of them to appear is the Dajjāl. The group went away to ʿAbdallāh ibn ʿAmr and told him that. He said: Marwān has said nothing; I have retained from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concerning that something I have not forgotten. I indeed heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The first of the signs to appear is the rising of the sun from its western setting-place, or the appearance of the Beast (al-Dābba) among the people in the forenoon; whichever of those two comes before its companion, the other follows it shortly." Then ʿAbdallāh ibn ʿAmr said — and he used to read the scriptures (the older Books) —: I suppose that the first of those two to appear is the rising of the sun from its western setting-place; and that is because, every time it sets, it comes beneath the Throne and falls down in prostration and asks permission to return, and it is permitted to return — until, when it pleases Allah that it rise from its western setting-place, it does as it used to do: it comes beneath the Throne and falls down in prostration and asks permission to return, but it is given no answer. It does that three times, without being given any answer; until, when as much of the night has passed as Allah wills to pass, and it realizes that even if it were granted permission, it would not reach the east, it says: how far is the east! Lord, who will support me against the people? — until, when the horizon becomes like a collar, it asks permission to return, and it is said to it: rise up from your place! Then it rises from its western setting-place. Then he recited: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul's faith will benefit it ... to the end of the verse. - Al-Muthannā related to me, he said: Abū Rabīʿa Fahd related to us, he said: Ḥammād related to us, on the authority of Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd Abū Ḥayyān, on the authority of al-Shaʿbī, that three men came in to Marwān ibn al-Ḥakam, and he mentioned something similar, on the authority of ʿAbdallāh ibn ʿAmr. - Al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā related to us, he said: ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us, he said: Maʿmar informed us, he said: I heard ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Najūd relating on the authority of Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh, on the authority of Ṣafwān ibn ʿAssāl, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "In the west there is an opened gate for repentant return, a distance of seventy years; it is not closed until the sun rises from that side."

   11062 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, he said: Abū Khālid related to us, on the authority of Ḥajjāj, on the authority of ʿĀṣim, on the authority of Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh, on the authority of Ṣafwān ibn ʿAssāl, he said: When the sun rises from its western setting-place, on that day no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before. - Al-Muthannā related to me, he said: Abū Rabīʿa Fahd related to us, he said: ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdala related to us, on the authority of Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh, he said: We went in the morning to Ṣafwān ibn ʿAssāl, and he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The gate of repentant return is open on the western side, its breadth is a distance of seventy years; and it remains open until the sun rises from that side."    11063 - Al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā related to us, he said: ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us, he said: Maʿmar informed us, on the authority of Ayyūb, on the authority of Ibn Sīrīn, on the authority of Abū Hurayra, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever returns in repentance before the sun rises from its western setting-place, it is accepted from him."

   11064 - Al-Muthannā related to me, he said: Fahd related to us, he said: Ḥammād related to us, on the authority of Yūnus ibn ʿUbayd, on the authority of Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd al-Taymī, on the authority of Abū Dharr, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When the sun sets, it comes beneath the Throne and falls down in prostration, and it is said to it: rise up from where you set!" Then he recited this verse: Are they waiting for anything other than that the angels should come to them ... to the end of the verse.

   11065 - Al-Muthannā related to me, he said: Yazīd ibn Hārūn related to us, on the authority of Sufyān ibn Ḥusayn, on the authority of al-Ḥakam, on the authority of Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Abū Dharr, he said: I was sitting one day behind the Prophet ﷺ on a donkey, and he looked at the sun as it set, and said: "It sets in a muddy spring; it proceeds until it falls down in prostration before its Lord beneath the Throne, until He gives it permission; and when He wills that it rise from its western setting-place, He holds it back, and it says: O Lord, my way is far! Then He says to it: rise up from where you set! That is when no soul's faith benefits it that did not believe before." - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, he said: ʿAbda related to us, on the authority of Mūsā ibn al-Musayyab, on the authority of Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Abū Dharr, he said: The Prophet ﷺ looked one day at the sun and said: "It is near that it should come until it stands still before Allah, and He says: return from where you came! At that moment no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before, or earn some good in its faith."

   11066 - Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, he said: my father related to me, he said: my uncle related to me, he said: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before or earn some good in its faith — that is, that it does not benefit a polytheist (mushrik) to believe at the signs, while it does benefit the people of faith at the signs, if they earned good before that. Ibn ʿAbbās said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out one evening of the evenings and said to them: "O servants of Allah, return in repentance to Allah! For it is near that you will see the sun from the west; and when it does that, repentant return is held back, the works are folded up, and faith is sealed." The people said: Is there a sign for that, O Messenger of Allah? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The sign of that night is that it will grow long, to the length of three nights; then those who fear their Lord will awaken and perform for Him the prayer, then they complete their prayer while the night is still in its place, not having passed; then they go to their resting-places and sleep, until they awaken while the night is still in its place. And when they see that, they fear that this is the harbinger of a tremendous matter. And when they reach the morning, the rising of the sun takes long for them. And while they are waiting for it, it suddenly rises over them from the west; and when it does that, no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before." - Al-Qāsim related to us, he said: al-Ḥusayn related to us, he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of Ṣāliḥ, the freedman of al-Tawʾama, on the authority of Abū Hurayra, that he heard him saying: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Hour will not arrive until the sun rises from its western setting-place; and when it rises and the people see it, they will all believe together; on that day no soul's faith will benefit it" ... the verse.

   11067 - And through that same chain he said: Ḥajjāj related to me, he said: Ibn Jurayj said: Ibn Abī ʿAtīq informed me, that he heard ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr reciting: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul's faith will benefit it he said: he says: we relate — and Allah knows best — that it is the sun rising from its western setting-place. Ibn Jurayj said: and ʿAmr ibn Dīnār informed me, that he heard ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr saying that. Ibn Jurayj said: and ʿAbdallāh ibn Abī Mulayka informed me, that he heard ʿAbdallāh ibn ʿAmr saying: the sign at which no soul's faith benefits it is when the sun rises from its western setting-place. Ibn Jurayj said: and Mujāhid said that too.

   11068 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, he said: my father related to us, on the authority of Shuʿba, on the authority of Qatāda, on the authority of Zurāra ibn Awfā, on the authority of Ibn Masʿūd: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul's faith will benefit it he said: the rising of the sun from its western setting-place. - Muḥammad ibn Bashshār and Muḥammad ibn al-Muthannā related to us, both of them said: Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar related to us, he said: Shuʿba related to us, he said: I heard Qatāda relating on the authority of Zurāra ibn Awfā, on the authority of ʿAbdallāh ibn Masʿūd concerning this verse: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come he said: the rising of the sun from its western setting-place.

   11069 - Ibn Bashshār related to us, he said: Ibn Abī ʿAdī and ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAwf related to us, on the authority of Ibn Sīrīn, he said: Abū ʿUbayda ibn ʿAbdallāh ibn Masʿūd related to me, he said: ʿAbdallāh ibn Masʿūd used to say: of the signs that have been mentioned, some have passed, except four: the rising of the sun from its western setting-place, the Beast of the earth, the Dajjāl, and the appearance of Yaʾjūj and Maʾjūj (Gog and Magog). And the sign with which the works are sealed is the rising of the sun from its western setting-place. Have you not seen that Allah said: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before or earn some good in its faith ?    11075 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, he said: Jaʿfar ibn ʿAwn related to us, on the authority of al-Masʿūdī, on the authority of al-Qāsim, he said: ʿAbdallāh said: Repentant return is offered to the son of Adam — if he accepts it — as long as none of the three has appeared: as long as the sun has not risen from its western setting-place, or the Beast, or the breaking-through of Yaʾjūj and Maʾjūj. - Yaʿqūb related to me, he said: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, he said: al-Masʿūdī related to us, on the authority of al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, he said: ʿAbdallāh said: Repentant return is offered to the son of Adam — if he accepts it — as long as none of the three has appeared: the Beast, the rising of the sun from its western setting-place, and the appearance of Yaʾjūj and Maʾjūj.

   11076 - Ibn Wakīʿ related to us, he said: my father related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of ʿĀmir, on the authority of ʿĀʾisha, she said: When the first of the signs appears, the pens are cast aside, the guardian angels are held back, and the bodies testify concerning the works.

   11077 - Abū Kurayb related to us, he said: Ibn Fuḍayl related to us, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Abū Ḥāzim, on the authority of Abū Hurayra, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Three things: when they appear, no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before or earn some good in its faith: the rising of the sun from its western setting-place, the Dajjāl, and the Beast of the earth."

   11078 - Bishr ibn Muʿādh related to us, he said: Muʿāwiya ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm related to us, he said: al-Ḥasan related to us, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Hasten with the works before six things: the rising of the sun from its western setting-place, the Dajjāl, the Smoke, the Beast of the earth, the particular fate of any of you (his death), and the affair of the community (the general tribulation)."

   11079 - Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, he said: It was mentioned that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ says — and he mentioned something similar.

   And the correct of those statements concerning this is that which is supported by the narrations from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, namely that he said: "That is when the sun rises from its western setting-place." As for His saying: or earn some good in its faith — that means: or that which earned some good in its faith in Allah, a good deed that confirms and verifies its word, before the rising of the sun from its western setting-place. It does not benefit an unbeliever who did not believe in Allah before its rising, nor does his faith in Allah benefit him if he believes and affirms Allah and His messengers; for it is a state in which no soul can refrain from the acknowledgment of the Mighty Allah, on account of the terror that comes over them from the affair of Allah. The ruling concerning their faith is thus like the ruling concerning their faith at the arrival of the Hour; and that is a state in which the creatures cannot refrain from the acknowledgment of the Oneness of Allah, on account of the fact that they witness with their own eyes, of the terrors of that Day, that which removes their need for reflection, reasoning, investigation, and learning. And it does not benefit whoever affirmed Allah and His messengers but neglected the obligations of Allah, and earned no obedience to Allah with his limbs — once it has risen from its western setting-place — neither his works if he works, nor his earning if he earns; on account of his preceding negligence therein, before its rising. As:

   11080 - Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to me, he said: Aḥmad ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, he said: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul's faith will benefit it that did not believe before or earn some good in its faith he says: that which earned some good in its affirmation, a good deed — those are the people of the qibla. And if it was affirming but did not perform any good before that, and then it acted after it saw the sign, it is not accepted from it. And if it performed good before the sign and afterwards, after the sign, also performed good, it is accepted from it.

   11081 - It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Faraj, he said: I heard Abū Muʿādh saying: ʿUbayd ibn Sulaymān related to us, he said: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk saying, concerning His saying: On the Day that some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul's faith will benefit it he said: whoever is overtaken by some of the signs while he is performing a good deed alongside his faith, from him Allah accepts the deed after the descent of the sign, as He accepted it from him before that.

   The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: Say: wait then, indeed we too are waiting .

   The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says to His prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: Say, O Muḥammad, to these people who set up alongside their Lord idols and statues as equals: Wait then for the angels to come to you with death to take your souls, or for your Lord to come to render judgment between us and you at the standing-place of the Resurrection, or for the rising of the sun from its western setting-place to come over you, so that the pages of works are folded up and your faith does not benefit you at that moment if you believe — until at that moment you know which of us is in the right and which is in the wrong, who is the evildoer and who is the doer of good, who is the truthful and who is the liar, and it becomes clear to you in that which of us is encompassed by the punishment of Allah and His painful chastisement, and who of us and of you is the saved and who is the damned. Indeed, we are waiting for that, so that Allah may abundantly grant us His reward for our obedience to Him, our sincerity in the worship of Him, and our ascription of Lordship to Him alone and to none other than Him, and so that He may judge between us and you with the truth; and He is the best of judges.

   هل ينظرون إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة أو يأتي ربك أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : { هل ينظرون إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة أو يأتي ربك أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك } يقول جل ثناؤه : هل ينتظر هؤلاء العادلون بربهم الأوثان والأصنام , إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة بالموت فتقبض أرواحهم , أو أن يأتيهم ربك يا محمد بين خلقه في موقف القيامة { أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك } يقول : أو أن يأتيهم بعض آيات ربك ; وذلك فيما قال أهل التأويل : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . ذكر من قال من أهل التأويل ذلك : 11050 - حدثني المثنى , قال : ثنا أبو حذيفة , قال : ثنا شبل , عن ابن أبي نجيح , عن مجاهد : { إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة } يقول : عند الموت حين توفاهم , أو يأتي ربك ذلك يوم القيامة . { أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك } طلوع الشمس من مغربها . 11051 - حدثنا محمد بن عبد الأعلى , قال : ثنا محمد بن ثور , عن معمر , عن قتادة : { إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة } بالموت , { أو يأتي ربك } يوم القيامة , { أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك } قال : آية موجبة طلوع الشمس من مغربها , أو ما شاء الله . - حدثنا بشر , قال : ثنا يزيد , قال : ثنا سعيد , عن قتادة , قوله : { هل ينظرون إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة } يقول : بالموت , { أو يأتي ربك } وذلك يوم القيامة , { أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك } . 11052 - حدثني محمد بن الحسين , قال : ثنا أحمد بن المفضل , قال : ثنا أسباط , عن السدي , { هل ينظرون إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة } عند الموت , { أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك } يقول : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . 11053 - حدثنا ابن وكيع وابن حميد , قالا : ثنا جرير , عن منصور , عن أبي الضحى , عن مسروق , قال : قال عبد الله في قوله : { هل ينظرون إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة أو يأتي ربك أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك } قال : يصبحون والشمس والقمر من هنا من قبل المغرب كالبعيرين القرينين . زاد ابن حميد في حديثه : فذلك حين { لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا } وقال : كالبعيرين المقترنين . 11054 - حدثنا القاسم , قال : ثنا الحسين , قال : ثني حجاج , عن ابن جريج , قوله : { هل ينظرون إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة } تقبض الأنفس بالموت , { أو يأتي ربك } يوم القيامة , { أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك } .يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا } . يقول تعالى ذكره : يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك , لا ينفع من كان قبل ذلك مشركا بالله أن يؤمن بعد مجيء تلك الآية . وقيل : إن تلك الآية التي أخبر الله جل ثناؤه أن الكافر لا ينفعه إيمانه عند مجيئها : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . ذكر من قال ذلك وما ذكر فيه عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : 11055 - حدثني عيسى بن عثمان الرملي , قال : ثنا يحيى بن عيسى , عن ابن أبي ليلى , عن عطية , عن أبي سعيد الخدري , قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها } قال : " طلوع الشمس من مغربها " . * حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا أبي , عن ابن أبي ليلى , عن عطية , عن أبي سعيد , عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم , مثله . 11056 - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا محمد بن فضيل , وجرير عن عمارة , عن أبي زرعة , عن أبي هريرة , قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " لا تقوم الساعة حتى تطلع الشمس من مغربها " قال : " فإذا رآها الناس آمن من عليها , فتلك حين لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل , أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا " . 11057 - حدثنا عبد الحميد بن بيان اليشكري وإسحاق بن شاهين , قالا : أخبرنا خالد بن عبد الله الطحان , عن يونس , عن إبراهيم التيمي , عن أبيه , عن أبي ذر , قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يوما : " أتدرون أين تذهب هذه الشمس ؟ " قالوا : الله ورسوله أعلم . قال : " إنها تذهب إلى مستقرها تحت العرش , فتخر ساجدة , فلا تزال كذلك حتى يقال لها ارتفعي من حيث شئت , فتصبح طالعة من مطلعها . ثم تجري إلى أن تنتهي إلى مستقر لها تحت العرش , فتخر ساجدة , فلا تزال كذلك حتى يقال لها ارتفعي من حيث شئت فتصبح طالعة من مطلعها . ثم تجري لا ينكر الناس منها شيئا , حتى تنتهي فتخر ساجدة في مستقر لها تحت العرش , فيصبح الناس لا ينكرون منها شيئا , فيقال لها : اطلعي من مغربك ! فتصبح طالعة من مغربها " . قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " أتدرون أي يوم ذلك ؟ " قالوا : الله ورسوله أعلم , قال : " ذاك يوم لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل , أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا " . - حدثنا مؤمل بن هشام ويعقوب بن إبراهيم , قالا : ثنا ابن علية , عن يونس , عن إبراهيم بن يزيد التيمي , عن أبيه , عن أبي ذر , عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم , نحوه . 11058 - حدثنا أبو كريب , قال : ثنا عبيد الله , عن إسرائيل , عن عاصم , عن زر , عن صفوان بن عسال , قال : ثنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " إن من قبل مغرب الشمس بابا مفتوحا للتوبة حتى تطلع الشمس من نحوه , فإذا طلعت الشمس من نحوه . لم ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا " . - حدثنا المفضل بن إسحاق , قال : ثنا أشعث بن عبد الرحمن بن زبيد اليامي , عن أبيه , عن زبيد , عن زر بن حبيش , عن صفوان بن عسال المرادي , قال : ذكرت التوبة , فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : " للتوبة باب بالمغرب مسيرة سبعين عاما أو أربعين عاما , فلا يزال كذلك حتى يأتي بعض آيات ربك " . - حدثني محمد بن عمارة , قال : ثنا سهل بن عامر , قال : ثنا مالك , عن عاصم بن أبي النجود , عن زر بن حبيش , عن صفوان بن عسال , أنه قال : " إن بالمغرب بابا مفتوحا للتوبة مسيرة سبعين عاما , فإذا طلعت الشمس من مغربها , لم ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل , أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا " . - حدثنا أبو كريب , قال : ثنا ابن فضيل , عن عمارة بن القعقاع , عن أبي زرعة , عن أبي هريرة , قال : سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول : " لا تقوم الساعة حتى تطلع الشمس من مغربها , فإذا طلعت ورآها الناس آمن من عليها , فذلك حين لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل " . - حدثنا أبو كريب , قال : ثنا خالد بن مخلد , قال : ثنا محمد بن جعفر , عن العلاء , عن أبيه , عن أبي هريرة , قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " لا تقوم الساعة حتى تطلع الشمس من مغربها , فيومئذ يؤمن الناس كلهم أجمعون , وذلك حين لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل , أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا " . 11059 - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا أبي , عن أبي عون , عن ابن سيرين , عن أبي هريرة , قال : التوبة مقبولة ما لم تطلع الشمس من مغربها . 11060 - حدثنا أحمد بن الحسن الترمذي , قال : ثنا سليمان بن عبد الرحمن , قال : ثنا ابن عياش , قال : ثنا ضمضم بن زرعة , عن شريح بن عبيد , عن مالك بن يخامر , عن معاوية بن أبي سفيان وعبد الرحمن بن عوف , وعبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص , عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم , قال : " لا تزال التوبة مقبولة حتى تطلع الشمس من مغربها , فإذا طلعت طبع على كل قلب بما فيه , وكفي الناس العمل " . * حدثنا أبو كريب , قال : ثنا أبو أسامة وجعفر بن عون , بنحوه . 11061 - حدثني يعقوب , قال : ثنا ابن علية , عن أبي حيان التيمي , عن أبي زرعة , قال : جلس ثلاثة من المسلمين إلى مروان بن الحكم بالمدينة , فسمعوه وهو يحدث عن الآيات , أن أولها خروجا الدجال . فانصرف القوم إلى عبد الله بن عمرو , فحدثوه بذلك , فقال : لم يقل مروان شيئا , قد حفظت من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في ذلك شيئا لم أنسه , لقد سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول : " إن أول الآيات خروجا : طلوع الشمس من مغربها , أو خروج الدابة على الناس ضحى , أيتهما كانت قبل صاحبتها فالأخرى على أثرها قريبا " . ثم قال عبد الله بن عمرو وكان يقرأ الكتب : أظن أولهما خروجا طلوع الشمس من مغربها ; وذلك أنها كلما غربت أتت تحت العرش , فسجدت واستأذنت في الرجوع , فيؤذن لها في الرجوع , حتى إذا بدا لله أن تطلع من مغربها فعلت كما كانت تفعل أتت تحت العرش , فسجدت واستأذنت في الرجوع , فلم يرد عليها شيئا , فتفعل ذلك ثلاث مرات لا يرد عليها بشيء , حتى إذا ذهب من الليل ما شاء الله أن يذهب , وعرفت أن لو أذن لها لم تدرك المشرق , قالت : ما أبعد المشرق رب من لي بالناس , حتى إذا صار الأفق كأنه طوق استأذنت في الرجوع , فقيل لها : اطلعي من مكانك ! فتطلع من مغربها . ثم قرأ : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها } . .. إلى آخر الآية . - حدثني المثنى , قال : ثنا أبو ربيعة فهد , قال : ثنا حماد , عن يحيى بن سعيد أبي حيان , عن الشعبي , أن ثلاثة نفر دخلوا على مروان بن الحكم , فذكر نحوه , عن عبد الله بن عمرو . - حدثنا الحسن بن يحيى , قال : أخبرنا عبد الرزاق , قال : أخبرنا معمر , قال : سمعت عاصم بن أبي النجود يحدث عن زر بن حبيش , عن صفوان بن عسال , قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " إن بالمغرب بابا مفتوحا للتوبة مسيرة سبعين عاما , لا يغلق حتى تطلع الشمس من نحوه " . 11062 - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا أبو خالد , عن حجاج , عن عاصم , عن زر بن حبيش , عن صفوان بن عسال , قال : إذا طلعت الشمس من مغربها , فيومئذ لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل . - حدثني المثنى , قال : ثنا أبو ربيعة فهد , قال : ثنا عاصم بن بهدلة , عن زر بن حبيش , قال : غدونا إلى صفوان بن عسال , فقال : إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم , قال : " إن باب التوبة مفتوح من قبل المغرب , عرضه مسيرة سبعين عاما , فلا يزال مفتوحا حتى تطلع من قبله الشمس " . ثم قرأ : { هل ينظرون إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة أو يأتي ربك أو يأتي بعض آيات ربك } . .. إلى : { خيرا } . - حدثني الربيع بن سليمان , قال : ثنا شعيب بن الليث , قال : ثنا الليث , عن جعفر بن ربيعة , عن عبد الرحمن بن هرمز , أنه قال : قال أبو هريرة , قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " لا تقوم الساعة حتى تطلع الشمس من المغرب " , قال : " فإذا طلعت الشمس من المغرب آمن الناس كلهم وذلك حين لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل , أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا " . 11063 - حدثنا الحسن بن يحيى , قال : أخبرنا عبد الرزاق , قال : أخبرنا معمر , عن أيوب , عن ابن سيرين , عن أبي هريرة , قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " من تاب قبل أن تطلع الشمس من مغربها قبل منه " . 11064 - حدثني المثنى , قال : ثنا فهد , قال : ثنا حماد , عن يونس بن عبيد , عن إبراهيم بن يزيد التيمي , عن أبي ذر , أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم , قال : " إن الشمس إذا غربت , أتت تحت العرش فسجدت , فيقال لها : اطلعي من حيث غربت ! " ثم قرأ هذه الآية : { هل ينظرون إلا أن تأتيهم الملائكة } . .. إلى آخر الآية . 11065 - حدثني المثنى , قال : ثنا يزيد بن هارون , عن سفيان بن حسين , عن الحكم , عن إبراهيم التيمي , عن أبيه , عن أبي ذر , قال : كنت ردف النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ذات يوم على حمار , فنظر إلى الشمس حين غربت , فقال : " إنها تغرب في عين حمئة , تنطلق حتى تخر لربها ساجدة تحت العرش حتى يأذن لها , فإذا أراد أن يطلعها من مغربها حبسها , فتقول : يا رب إن مسيري بعيد , فيقول لها : اطلعي من حيث غربت ! فذلك حين لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل " . - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا عبدة , عن موسى بن المسيب , عن إبراهيم التيمي , عن أبيه , عن أبي ذر قال : نظر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يوما إلى الشمس فقال : " يوشك أن تجيء حتى تقف بين يدي الله , فيقول : ارجعي من حيث جئت ! فعند ذلك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل , أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا " . 11066 - حدثني محمد بن سعد , قال : ثني أبي , قال : ثني عمي , قال : ثني أبي , عن أبيه , عن ابن عباس , قوله : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا } فهو أنه لا ينفع مشركا إيمانه عند الآيات , وينفع أهل الإيمان عند الآيات إن كانوا اكتسبوا خيرا قبل ذلك . قال ابن عباس : خرج رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عشية من العشيات , فقال لهم : " يا عباد الله , توبوا إلى الله ! فإنكم توشكون أن تروا الشمس من قبل المغرب , فإذا فعلت ذلك حبست التوبة وطوي العمل وختم الإيمان " . فقال الناس : هل لذلك من آية يا رسول الله ؟ فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " إن آية تلكم الليلة أن تطول كقدر ثلاث ليال , فيستيقظ الذين يخشون ربهم فيصلون له , ثم يقضون صلاتهم والليل مكانه لم ينقض , ثم يأتون مضاجعهم فينامون , حتى إذا استيقظوا والليل مكانه , فإذا رأوا ذلك خافوا أن يكون ذلك بين يدي أمر عظيم , فإذا أصبحوا وطال عليهم طلوع الشمس . فبينا هم ينتظرونها إذ طلعت عليهم من قبل المغرب , فإذا فعلت ذلك , لم ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل " . - حدثنا القاسم , قال : ثنا الحسين , قال : ثني حجاج , عن ابن جريج , عن صالح مولى التوأمة , عن أبي هريرة , أنه سمعه يقول : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " لا تقوم الساعة حتى تطلع الشمس من مغربها , فإذا طلعت ورآها الناس آمنوا كلهم أجمعون , فيومئذ لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها " . .. الآية . 11067 - وبه قال : حدثني حجاج , قال : قال ابن جريج : أخبرني ابن أبي عتيق , أنه سمع عبيد بن عمير يتلو : { يوم يأتي بعض آياته ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها } قال : يقول : نتحدث والله أعلم أنها الشمس تطلع من مغربها . قال ابن جريج : وأخبرني عمرو بن دينار , أنه سمع عبيد بن عمير يقول ذلك . قال ابن جريج : وأخبرني عبد الله بن أبي مليكة , أنه سمع عبد الله بن عمرو يقول : إن الآية التي { لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها } إذا طلعت الشمس من مغربها . قال ابن جريج : وقال مجاهد ذلك أيضا . 11068 - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا أبي , عن شعبة , عن قتادة , عن زرارة بن أوفى , عن ابن مسعود : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . - حدثنا محمد بن بشار ومحمد بن المثنى , قالا : ثنا محمد بن جعفر , قال : ثنا شعبة , قال : سمعت قتادة يحدث عن زرارة بن أوفى , عن عبد الله بن مسعود في هذه الآية : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . 11069 - حدثنا ابن بشار , قال : ثنا ابن أبي عدي وعبد الوهاب بن عوف , عن ابن سيرين , قال : ثني أبو عبيدة بن عبد الله بن مسعود , قال : كان عبد الله بن مسعود يقول : ما ذكر من الآيات فقد مضين غير أربع : طلوع الشمس من مغربها , ودابة الأرض , والدجال , وخروج يأجوج ومأجوج . والآية التي تختم بها الأعمال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها , ألم تر أن الله قال : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا } ؟ قال : فهي طلوع الشمس من مغربها . - حدثنا ابن بشار , قال : ثنا ابن أبي عدي , عن شعبة , عن سليمان , عن أبي الضحى , عن مسروق , قال : قال عبد الله : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها مع القمر , كأنهما بعيران مقرونان . * قال شعبة : وحدثنا قتادة , عن زرارة , عن عبد الله بن مسعود : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا جرير , عن الأعمش , عن أبي الضحى , عن مسروق , عن عبد الله بن مسعود : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها مع القمر كالبعيرين المقترنين . - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا أبي , عن سفيان , عن منصور والأعمش , عن أبي الضحى , عن مسروق عن عبد الله : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها مع القمر كالبعيرين القرينين . 11070 - وقال : ثنا أبي , عن إسرائيل وأبيه , عن أشعث بن أبي الشعثاء , عن أبيه , عن عبد الله , قال : التوبة مبسوطة ما لم تطلع الشمس من مغربها . 11071 - حدثنا بشر , قال : ثنا يزيد , قال : ثنا سعيد , عن قتادة , قال : ذكر لنا أن ابن أم عبد كان يقول : لا يزال باب التوبة مفتوحا حتى تطلع الشمس من مغربها , فإذا رأى الناس ذلك آمنوا , وذلك حين لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا . - حدثنا بشر , قال : ثنا عبد الله بن جعفر , قال : ثنا العلاء بن عبد الرحمن , عن أبيه , عن أبي هريرة , قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " لا تقوم الساعة حتى تطلع الشمس من مغربها , فإذا طلعت آمن الناس كلهم , فيومئذ لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل , أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا " . - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا ابن عيينة , عن عمرو بن دينار , عن عبيد بن عمير : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . 11072 - وقال : حدثنا أبي , عن الحسن بن عقبة أبي كبران , عن الضحاك : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . - حدثنا الحسن بن يحيى , قال : أخبرنا عبد الرزاق , قال : أخبرنا إسرائيل , قال : أخبرني أشعث بن أبي الشعثاء , عن أبيه , عن ابن مسعود , في قوله : { لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل } قال : لا تزال التوبة مبسوطة ما لم تطلع الشمس من مغربها . 11073 - حدثني محمد بن عمرو , قال : ثنا أبو عاصم , قال : ثنا عيسى , عن ابن أبي نجيح , عن مجاهد , في قول الله : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . 11074 - حدثني يونس بن عبد الأعلى , قال : أخبرنا ابن وهب , قال : أخبرني أبو صخر , عن القرظي أنه كان يقول في هذه الآية : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل } يقول : إذا جاءت الآيات لم ينفع نفسا إيمانها , يقول : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . - حدثني الحارث , قال : ثنا عبد العزيز , قال : ثنا سفيان الثوري , عن عاصم بن أبي النجود , عن زر بن حبيش , عن صفوان بن عسال : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . - حدثني الحارث , قال : ثنا عبد العزيز , قال : ثنا إسرائيل , عن أبي إسحاق , عن وهب بن جابر , عن عبد الله بن عمرو : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك } قال : طلوع الشمس من مغربها . وقال آخرون : بل ذلك بعض الآيات الثلاثة : الدابة , ويأجوج ومأجوج , وطلوع الشمس من مغربها . ذكر من قال ذلك : 11075 - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا جعفر بن عون , عن المسعودي , عن القاسم , قال : قال عبد الله : التوبة معروضة على ابن آدم إن قبلها ما لم تخرج إحدى ثلاث : ما لم تطلع الشمس من مغربها , أو الدابة , أو فتح يأجوج ومأجوج . - حدثني يعقوب , قال : ثنا ابن علية , قال : ثنا المسعودي , عن القاسم بن عبد الرحمن , قال : قال عبد الله : التوبة معروضة على ابن آدم إن قبلها ما لم تخرج إحدى ثلاث : الدابة , وطلوع الشمس من مغربها , وخروج يأجوج ومأجوج . 11076 - حدثنا ابن وكيع , قال : ثنا أبي , عن سفيان , عن منصور , عن عامر , عن عائشة , قالت : إذا خرج أول الآيات طرحت الأقلام , وحبست الحفظة , وشهدت الأجساد على الأعمال . 11077 - حدثنا أبو كريب , قال : ثنا ابن فضيل , عن أبيه , عن أبي حازم , عن أبي هريرة , قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : ثلاث إذا خرجت لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا : طلوع الشمس من مغربها , والدجال , ودابة الأرض " . 11078 - حدثنا بشر بن معاذ , قال : ثنا معاوية بن عبد الكريم , قال : ثنا الحسن , قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : " بادروا بالأعمال ستا : طلوع الشمس من مغربها , والدجال والدخان , ودابة الأرض , وخويصة أحدكم , وأمر العامة " . 11079 - حدثنا بشر , قال : ثنا يزيد , قال : ثنا سعيد , عن قتادة , قال : ذكر أن نبي الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول , فذكر نحوه . وأولى الأقوال بالصواب في ذلك , ما تظاهرت به الأخبار عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال : " ذلك حين تطلع الشمس من مغربها " . وأما قوله : { أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا } فإنه يعني : أو عملت في تصديقها بالله خيرا من عمل صالح تصدق قيله , وتحققه من قبل طلوع الشمس من مغربها , لا ينفع كافرا لم يكن آمن بالله قبل طلوعها , كذلك إيمانه بالله إن آمن وصدق بالله ورسله , لأنها حالة لا تمتنع نفس من الإقرار بالله العظيم لهول الوارد عليهم من أمر الله , فحكم إيمانهم كحكم إيمانهم عند قيام الساعة ; وتلك حال لا يمتنع الخلق من الإقرار بوحدانية الله لمعاينتهم من أهوال ذلك اليوم ما ترتفع معه حاجتهم إلى الفكر والاستدلال والبحث والاعتبار , ولا ينفع من كان بالله وبرسله مصدقا ولفرائض الله مضيعا غير مكتسب بجوارحه لله طاعة إذا هي طلعت من مغربها أعماله إن عمل , وكسبه إن اكتسب , لتفريطه الذي سلف قبل طلوعها في ذلك . كما : 11080 - حدثني محمد بن الحسين , قال : ثنا أحمد بن المفضل , قال : ثنا أسباط , عن السدي { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها لم تكن آمنت من قبل أو كسبت في إيمانها خيرا } يقول : كسبت في تصديقها خيرا عملا صالحا , فهؤلاء أهل القبلة . وإن كانت مصدقة ولم تعمل قبل ذلك خيرا فعملت بعد أن رأت الآية لم يقبل منها . وإن عملت قبل الآية خيرا ثم عملت بعد الآية خيرا , قبل منها . 11081 - حدثت عن الحسين بن الفرج , قال : سمعت أبا معاذ , قال : ثنا عبيد بن سليمان , قال : سمعت الضحاك يقول , في قوله : { يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها } قال : من أدركه بعض الآيات وهو على عمل صالح مع إيمانه قبل الله منه العمل بعد نزول الآية كما قبل منه قبل ذلك .قل انتظروا إنا منتظرون القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : { قل انتظروا إنا منتظرون } . يقول تعالى لنبيه محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم : قل يا محمد لهؤلاء العادلين بربهم الأوثان والأصنام : انتظروا أن تأتيكم الملائكة بالموت , فتقبض أرواحكم , أو أن يأتي ربك لفصل القضاء بيننا وبينكم في موقف القيامة , أو أن يأتيكم طلوع الشمس من مغربها , فتطوى صحائف الأعمال , ولا ينفعكم إيمانكم حينئذ إن آمنتم , حتى تعلموا حينئذ المحق منا من المبطل , والمسيء من المحسن , والصادق من الكاذب , وتتبينوا عند ذلك بمن يحيق عذاب الله وأليم نكاله , ومن الناجي منا ومنكم ومن الهالك , إنا منتظرو ذلك , ليجزل الله لنا ثوابه على طاعتنا إياه , وإخلاصنا العبادة له , وإفرادناه بالربوبية دون ما سواه , ويفصل بيننا وبينكم بالحق , وهو خير الفاصلين .
