The explanation of His word: وَهَذَا كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ مُبَارَكٌ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَاتَّقُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ (And this is a Book which We have sent down, blessed; so follow it and be God-fearing, that you may be shown mercy) (6:155).
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, means by His word (And this is a Book which We have sent down, blessed): and this Qurʾān which We have sent down to our Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ — "a blessed Book which We have sent down, so follow it." He says: make it a guide that you follow and act according to what is in it, O people. (And be God-fearing), He says: and guard yourselves against Allah concerning yourselves, lest you neglect acting according to what is in it, transgress His limits (ḥudūd), and treat what He has forbidden (maḥārim) as permissible. As:
14179 — Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word (And this is a Book which We have sent down, blessed): and that is the Qurʾān which Allah sent down to Muḥammad, peace and blessings be upon him. (So follow it), he says: so follow what is permitted in it, and declare what is forbidden in it to be forbidden.
And His word (that you may be shown mercy), He says: that you may be shown mercy and thereby be saved from the punishment of Allah and His painful retribution.
