Tafseer of The Iron · Al-Hadid · 57:11
Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He will multiply it for him and he will have a noble reward?

The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: Who is the one who spends in the way of Allah in this worldly life, thereby expecting reward for his expenditure, striving for what is with Allah — and that is the goodly loan? He says: then his Lord will repay him manyfold for that loan which he lent by spending in His way, so that He gives him seven hundred for the one. And some of the grammarians of Basra said concerning His words (Who is the one who will give Allah a goodly loan): this is like the saying of the Arabs, "I have with you a loan of good, or a loan of evil," when one has done him good or evil; and they recited in support of it a verse of al-Shanfarā:
We shall repay Salāmān, the son of Mufarrij, their loan according to what their hands did before, and thus they caused stumbling. (1)
(And for him is a noble reward) — He says: and for him is a noble recompense and reward; and by that reward He means: Paradise. And we have already previously mentioned the report of the exegetes concerning that in a manner that makes repetition unnecessary.

The footnotes:
(1) The author attributed the verse to al-Shanfarā. And Salāmān ibn Mufarrij is an Arab tribe. And "al-qarḍ" — as in (al-Lisān: qaraḍa) — with fatḥa on the qāf and with kasra: it is what people repay one another mutually and demand from one another, and its plural is qurūḍ, and it is what one advances of good or of evil. Umayya ibn Abī al-Ṣalt said:
Every man will soon be repaid his loan, good or evil, and be judged just as he has judged.
The author has already previously cited this verse of Umayya in (2:592) of this edition.
